South of France September 10 – 18, 2013 Join Dory for a very special art and cultural retreat in the heart of Provence. Our hotel is the beautiful 18th century Château d'Arpaillargues, located 3 miles west of Uzès, in the village of Arpaillargues. Centrally located in one of the most beautiful, artistically rich and historical areas of France, Arpaillargues is only 15 miles from Nimes and 25 miles from Avignon. Explore the charming village offering several restaurants, a café, bakery and grocery store. The nearby town of Uzès is particularly well preserved with a medieval cathedral, chapel and towers, and narrow cobblestone streets that take you back to medieval times. Its Place aux Herbes, surrounded by arcaded houses, is considered one of the most beautiful in France. To complement this enticing history, Uzès has a vibrant contemporary life with more than 400 shops, beautiful local crafts and a variety of charming cafes and restaurants. Accommodations at the Château are included in the workshop package. Our group will have our own workshop studio rooms in which to enjoy the daily practice of painting and creating an artistic travel journal. This peaceful corner of the world offers abundant opportunities for painting, journaling and photography -- from intimate courtyards, medieval gardens, open air markets, to views of lush vineyards and fields of sunflowers. In addition, we will explore fascinating Arles, the city where Vincent Van Gogh found so much inspiration. The weather in the south of France in September is delightful. The average daytime high temperature is 73°; at night the average low is 57°. The workshop package includes:
